If you are not aware of The MisAdventures of An Awkward Black Girl web series on you tube, you better recognize. I am paying it forward y'all. Please check out Issa's series. She recently won the an award for best web series and the racists came out of the wood work to trash her. They could not fathom how this Black woman beat out their web series.
I would also like to introduce to you two other great web series The Number and The Couple. These shows are produced by Dennis Dortch. If you would like to know more about him, simply you tube him. The Number currently has 8 episodes available. Jason is has proposed to Melissa and his sister hates her.
You can meet The Couple in an episode named Ex and Texts. The Couple is like being a fly on the wall, watching how people live their everyday lives. We don't even know their names, but we can relate to them. They are us. Regular, decent Black folks being themselves.

I love You Tube. It's the gift that keeps on giving. I find so many wonderful videos from the past. I could never afford to buy all of them, if payment was required. Contemporary television doesn't even compare. Y'all I don't even have cable. Can you believe it?
Most of you who are reading this thread first came into contact with me personally when I handed you an invitation to come and visit Black Ashe Folks. Thank you for plopping your eye balls here. I know you all have many things competing for your time. Welcome.
Each week I will assigne a new video(s) for your viewing and listening enjoyment. The videos that I suggest generally want be anything you will see on t.v. It's a celebration of African American culture through dance and music.
I expect you all to view the videos I've assign and simply post to the individual sites your opinion. I will periodically view these videos for your comments to see what you think. You want be able to post them here.
If you would like to be a part of my Weekly Video View, you must be an active participant. I will only assign them by U.S. mail. Yes the old fashion way. Why? I am inudated with email daily. I call it the dreaded inbox. I appreciate and am excited to send or receive something in mail physical mailbox. I am like wow. I wonder who was thoughtful enough to send me a real piece a mail? A letter, a note is a welcome and unexpected change. No bills though...
I would suggest you go and buy some envelops and a book of stamps. I am going to make y'all work a little. Now don't be a scardy cat. It want hurt. Try it. You may like it.

Black Nerd Maybe? Geek Ah Naw!
Dear Y'all,
I am just come to the realization that I have nerdish tendacies. Do I consider myself a hard core nerd? No. The traditional view of a nerd is someone who is socially inept, bookish, awkward, unattractive, weird, and has the personality of a rock. The only adjective that fits me is bookish. Why bookish? I have just counted the number of books I have on this blog. There are 40 book titles and 24 of them are straight history books. So I am going to say I have nerdish ways.
My fellow Nerds I want to meet each of you. If you are a Nerd or have nerdish ways, please send me a self addressed envelop w/$1.00. You may be invited to attend my Nerd event. You may contact @ P.O. The first two books in the series are The Minion and The Awakening. These books must be read in order. I would advise L.A. Banks readers to also try to acquire Tony Browder's Nile Valley Civilization. It's very readable. You will me some of the mythical and historical characters in this series.

Your mind is awake, but you are unable to move your limbs. Anyone looking at you would assume that you are sleep. Your mind hasn't sent signals to your limbs and you are fighting desperately and mentally to move. You feel as if you are being held down and something is sitting on your chest crushing you, but you can't move any of your limbs to wake yourself up. Dat witch is tryin' to kill you and you can't fight back because you can't get your mind and body to cooperate. If only you could get one of your limbs to move, you'd would wake up. Book Buy Selection: The World & Africa, D.E. B. Dubois
Request:
My goal and objective is to collect 10,000 books by January 31, 2013. I am requesting that whether you are or aren't a reader that you buy someone book who is. Amazon or any other book vendor has this book. You may simply buy the book and have it forwarded to Mrs. P. Peavy, P.O. Box 11390, Atlanta, GA. I thank all participants in advance. I will keep y'all posted quarterly on how many books we've acquired. I am a history buff. My goal is to impact some type of knowledge on young minds. The World and Africa is on my non fiction book list here.
My Story:
A few years back, I was in Lagos, Nigeria, West Africa. If you don't know about Lagos, you can you tube it and get a feel for the environment and people. My companion and I were at the market, going from book stall to book stall. He was a graduate student at one of the universities. The school was located in Ogun State. Lagos and Ogun State are located in south west Nigeria and are Yoruba states. The Yorubas are a ethnic group. I suggest you you tube the Yorubas too. Lagos is like the New York city of Nigeria. It attracts everyone from all over Nigeria and Africa.
Anyway we were in the hot sun going from stall to stall. He was trying to find a book that was somewhat related to his course. Now we all know that here in the States when you report for class, the instructor gives you a syllabus, which tells you the book(s) needed for the class. If you have the money, just go to the student center to the bookstore and buy the book(s). Well this type of service is not available in Nigeria. I was so annoyed. We in America have free libraries, but we want even go there to read a free book. I just found there appreciation for books wonderful.
What the experience did for me was to make this book lover aware that everyone does not have easy access to books.
The purpose of collecting books is to have a international African book read with African students. The books will be distributed either to local university and/or high school students.
Again, I will offer my deepest appreciation and thanks for all of those who donated the book.

Undesirable, Losers, & Harry Hippies - Don't Come Heah!
I am by nature a story teller y’all. Over the last 6 months or so, I have been having similar experiences. This incident occurred on Sunday, March 18, 2012. I know you must put yourself in places to meet compatible people. However, this wasn’t something on my mind. I am just out and about minding my business. Actually, I was just engrossed reading my book. When I am like this, everyone just fades into the background.
Anyway, I heard an “excuse me mam.” So naturally I looked up to see if the voice was addressing me. Standing before me, pushing a walker (invalid), with a doo rag on his head was a male who had to be at least 10 years my junior and already broke down. Anyway, to make a long story short, he tried to mack me. I politely turned him down. He saunters away, pushes his walker forward out my space.
I swear to you guys I must have something about my look that make these types of males approach me. Maybe they think that because I am a Black older female, I am pretty desperate and open to their advances. I guess he figured I make a good nurse to wipe the spittle from his mouth, and change his bed pan. So now a male in a doo rag and one foot in grave yard thought I might be interested. It was incredulous and sad and funny all at once.

Many of you will never have the opportunity to go to these places. Why not live vicariously through me. Even though, if you really had the desire to so go, I know you could. Songs for Y'all - Old School Music Rules My Soul
I grew up in an area where real music ruled. I heard it everywhere. The music was so good and there were so many fabulous artist and entertainers you did not know what to listen to. They all had their own sound and style. They had it all, i.e. vocally, lyrically, and musically. So what if today's music is garbage and guaranteed to dumb you down and make you hostile and crazy. The music of the past is a wonderful alternative. It's just waiting for your to discover or rediscover.
I like songs and music that touch me spiritually and emotionally. The song must move me and take me higher. I also appreciate songs that teaches a life lesson.
For example the songs Let Me Put My Head in It (Theotis Ealey) & Dont't Let the Joneses Get You Down (Tempations) are great life lessons. The first teaches young girls a trick dudes will use to get you in all kind of trouble. You know once the head is in, there ain't no turning back. Girls don't fall that old trick. The Temptations tell us live within our means and stopped trying to keep up with folks who are probably up to their ears in death.
I dedicate to you all A Song For You (Temptations & Donny Hathaway) and Don't Take Away the Music (Tavares).
I had a Difficult times narrowing down the songs. Please go to you tube and listen, then come back and voice your opinion on each song.

George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic
Folks,
Some would say "why did you start with the God Father of Funk and Soul, James Brown?" Yeah father James sits at the top of the prayamid. He's father. However, I choose George Clinton and the P-Funk because they took silly costumes and on the sly played and sanged so well it make you wanna almost slap your mama.
What's fascinating to me is that George nem started as a doo-wop group. Man their transformation was serious.
I simply love the Funk. During the late 60s and throughout the 70s there were so many fantastic black bands, groups and vocalists, you did know what to do with yourself. If this your first introduction to George and P-Funk enjoy. If you have been around the block a few times and was young in their heydey, while just relive the beauty of seeing and hearing live bands and vocalists who did not need any props to make them sound good. These people could do it live.

Raphaell Saadiq - Good Man Acoustic & NPR Music
Raphael has been around since the 90s. He is a musican. So I feel he deserves a shout. I like the sound of his acoustic version of Good Man, and his NPR Music presentation. I love the live instrumentation.

Cosmic Slop. I love this song. The mama is trickin' to feed her children. My question has always been why are you reproducing when you don't have the basic means to support them. I don't understand the mentality of bringing children in the world to suffer.
